Sad but true...

We have been frequently reminded about how many graduates out there who made the grade but unable to meet real world's expectations simply because of the poor command of the English language. Sad but true.

I am constantly being reminded - especially back in IPBL - that I am going to be an English teacher and therefore I should have a good grasp of the language. My 4 years education (2 years of foundation + 2 years of degree) in IPBL had taught me so much about the importance of having an excellent command of the English language. Once mistake was made it will be 'highlighted' and instant reminder/correction will be made. So, my 4 years of education in IPBL has made me to become more aware when it comes to the usage of the English language. I used to hate being corrected (by the lecturers) when I made mistakes but I am grateful for it now. Sad but true.

I have left IPBL and now I am pursuing my 3rd and 4th year of degree in one of the well-established universities in the country and most probably in the region as well. So, my expectation was high - in terms of the usage of the English language. Undeniably, there are few lecturers who have good command of the language - a few but not all. Sad but true.

How would you react when a person who carries the title "lecturer" pronounced the word "cucumber" as "chu.chum.ber"? How would you react when a so-called lecturer speaks English with horrible grammatical structure in a very formal situation - during a lecture that supposedly be conducted in English? Sad but true.

CSSUKM outing @ Sg. Gabai, Selangor

Apparently, this is an annual activity organised by CSSUKM and like the previous year, Sg. Gabai was chosen as the venue. This superfun outing took place last Sunday (26 July 2009) and we left UKM at about 7 in the morning by using a chartered school bus. Thanks to Gnet and co. for the arrangement. The trip to Sg. Gabai took us about approximately 1 hour and it was raining at that time. Luckily, by the time we reached there the rain stopped from pouring down heavily. We had to climb the steep staircases in order to reach our gathering spot. I tell you, I was exhausted and had to stop a few times because my knees were in pain *sigh* but I was not the only one. We arrived at the desired spot and one thing I noticed - the water was not clear. It was slightly brownish due to the rain. Nevertheless, the water gradually became clear - not as clear as the water back in Sabah - because the rain had stopped. I had so much fun playing in the water like a small kid. :)

The water current was powerful... (Photo by Gnet)

We had so much fun! (Photo by Gnet)

What the ****?

Is this for real?

This thing has been publicized in the media for a while now and I still couldn't believe the person that has been voted as the most sexiest woman is actually a man! WTF? I myself adore her gorgeous look especially in both Transformers 1 & 2.

Totally packed!

Today, I had to squeeze myself into a tiny lecture room which was filled with more 50 people! Even worse, I can't pay full attention to the lecture due to noisy situation (people non-stop chit-chatting at the back) as well as the low volume of the lecturer's voice. *sigh* I managed to curi-curi took a few pictures during the lecture.

This is how the room looks like! Packed with more than 50 people!

Everyone is bored. So, what else? Kacau other people la.

To avoid boredom, I copied the notes from the slides but stopped after a while because I couldn't catch-up with the pace.

My group members for the coming micro teaching. It carries 15% of the overall mark for this semester. Break a leg!

Finally, the lecture ended...2 hours later.

Killing the time part 2

4.00 p.m.
I woke up from my nap. While still in my "mamai" mode, I walked towards my desk and turned my lappy on. Logged in to the net and surfed the net (hoped to see something interesting).

4.30 p.m.
My room mate got himself ready and left for the dance practice. FYI, dancing is my room mate's cup of tea. Good for him. He asked me to join the dance team but I refused to because I'm not that good in memorizing all the choreographs. I tried once back in IPBL but... *sigh*. So, he left for the practice leaving me alone in the room. Huhuhuhu....

5.00 p.m.
Julian knocked the door and all of the sudden he asked me, "Mo join sik? (Wanna join me?)". I was lost for a while and said "Join apa?". Then he explained to me that he was invited to a dinner with fellow members of CSSUKM (Catholic Students Society UKM). I was a bit reluctant initially but I managed to convinced myself that joining him would be interesting and fun. So, I agreed to join him.

5.15 p.m.
Continued surfing the net...

6.00 p.m.
Took my bath and get myself ready because the dinner thingy was set at 7 p.m. and somebody was going to fetch us at the bus stop.

6.50 p.m.
Julian and I walked to the bus stop and both of us had no idea of who's going to fetch us up later. At the bus stop, we saw a lady and she was holding something that looked like a Bible.

7.15 p.m.
A grey humble Kancil driven by a lady arrived and Julian told me that was the car that supposedly going to fetch us. He knew it by looking the car's registration number. The driver came out and greeted us. Yes. She was the right person. Interestingly, the other lady that was also waited at the bus stop also happened to be invited to the dinner as well.

7.20 p.m.
The driver introduced herself as Jeannette. She's from Miri and a Kayan by ethnic. The other lady introduced herself as Christine and guess what..she's a SABAHAN and a KADAZAN! :) Later, we went to UO to pick another guy and his name is Luke. A Bidayuh from Kuching.

7.40 p.m.
We arrived at the meeting place - a Mamak restaurant which is very common here in Selangor. Met other friends there and we combined 4 tables together! We ordered our food & drinks.

8.00 p.m.
Our orders arrived and we had our dinner while introducing ourselves to one another. Most of them were from east Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak). I really enjoyed the dinner and it was a great feeling to get to know new friends who shared the same faith as mine - Catholic. At least, by joining this community, I felt less homesick. I was told that there is going to be camp held during the Hari Raya break and it's going to be organized at JB. I think I'm going to participate in that camp.

9.30 p.m.
After a long chit-chat at the restaurant, we bid farewell to each other and headed to the respective residential colleges.

9.45 p.m.
Arrived at the hostel...

10.00 p.m.
Again...turned on my lappy and went online.

Killing the time...

Here I am at my lovely desk updating my blog and it's been a couple of days since I posted my last entry. Ok. Let's start the business...

6.00 a.m.
I woke up early today with the hope that not many people are using the bathroom at that particular time. I made the right decision for waking up early because they were only a few people in there when I came in. I did everything that was necessary and headed back to my room to get myself ready for lecture.

7.00 a.m.
I went down to the bus stop just a few steps away from the residential college together with my friends. We waited for our other counterparts to join us. A few minutes later, a bus came (after a few fully occupied buses passed by) and we boarded it to the lecture hall.

7.30 a.m.
It took us about half an hour before we reached Pusat Bahasa since the bus had to go to several other residential colleges to pick up the students. We stopped at the bus stop opposite FPend (Fakulti Pendidikan). Pusat Bahasa is just across the road.

7.45 a.m.
We waited outside the lecture hall because we were not sure which hall was going to be used. Apparently, there was a problem with the electricity that caused blackout. Then, we went upstairs and entered the room. There were also a few other students waited for the lecturer to arrive.

9.00 a.m.
While waiting for the lecturer to come we cracked some jokes and made the room 'alive' with our laughters. A moment later, a lady came and told us that the lecturer is not available and the lecture is postponed to next week. *sigh* All of us left the room and headed to Pusanika to fill our 'tank'.

9.30 a.m.
We arrived at Pusanika and headed to the cafeteria and had our late breakfast. After having our meal, I went up to UniMart to buy something. My other counterparts decided that they wanted to go the library and invited me to join them. Thought about it for a while and decided to go back to the hostel.

9.45 a.m.
Boarded the bus with my 2 friends - Nurul & Leen. We reached our residential college a moment later and I straight away went to the office to check whether my orders had arrived. *Sigh* I arrived at the office and realized that there was a notice at the counter - "Pejabat ditutup sementara. Sebarang urusan pejabat sila hubungi xxxxx."

9.50 a.m.
Reached my room. Opened the door, put my bag down, got changed and switched on my lappy - ONLINE. Surfed the net till afternoon and decided to skip lunch.

1.30 p.m.
Shut down my lappy and took my nap.

**To be continued**

In Loving Memory of Michael Joseph Jackson (1958-2009)

This is a poem dedicated to the greatest artist of all time the late Michael Jackson...

Michael Jackson (1958-2009)
::HIS MUSIC WILL LIVE FOREVER::

'We Had Him' by Maya Angelou

Beloveds, now we know that we know nothing
Now that our bright and shining star can slip away from our fingertips like a puff of summer wind

Without notice, our dear our songs among the stars and and walk our dances across the face of the moon

In the instant we learn, that Michael is gone we know nothing
No clocks can tell our time and no oceans can rush our tides
With the abrupt absence of our treasure

Though we our many, each of us is achingly alone
Piercingly alone
Only when we confess our confusion can we remember that he was a gift to us and we did have him

He came to us from the Creator, trailing creativity in abundance
Despite the anguish of life he was sheathed in mother love and family love and survived and did not more than that

He thrived with passion and compassion, humor and style
We had him
Whether we knew who he was or did not know, he was our's and we were his
We had him

Room K16A 311 - Rahim Kajai Residential College

Initially, I was told that my classmates and I will be staying at Za'aba residential college. The one where the horror tragedy happened few weeks before. Then, I received a text message saying that instead of Za'aba, we will be staying at Rahim Kajai residential college. On the 4th July, I arrived at the college, checked-in and got my room keys. I had no idea what my room will look like. So, I drag my heavy luggage down the staircases and went to the 3rd floor of the building. I opened the door and surprise...suprise...

We have balcony! Really unexpected...

This is the view from the balcony and my room mate loves this very much...Haha..."hidden agenda"...

We can even go the next room from the balcony! Haha...

My desk and wardrobe...
