Birthday blast

At this point of doing this, I've just bathed after coming back from celebrating Gnet's 21st birthday party. The party was splendid and everyone got themselves messy with the cake, eggs, flour even the drinks! Conee was the mastermind of everything. This time around the chosen venue was the multipurpose court at Zaba residential college. Initially, the chosen venue was Tasik Cempaka - a place outside of UKM - but since the party was to be held at midnight, it would be unsafe if we have the celebration there especially after the bad incident encountered by a friend of us. Everything was planned carefully - from preparing a video till the "kidnapping" of the birthday girl. The video was actually meant for giving Gnet the instruction of the game. There were several cue cards prepared prior to the party. She had to adhere to the instructions in that particular video and supposedly go all over the allocated places to collect all the cue cards. Unfortunately, there was a technical problem in which she couldn't get access to internet thus hindered her from viewing the uploaded video. However, the whole plan was not affected by that. We then went to plan B.

Since the video thingy was not working, we blindfolded the birthday girl with a scarf and drove her to the so-called secret place. Upon arriving at the place I could see candles in the formation of "21st". It was really beautiful. Then a few others escorted her to the middle of the court - still blindfolded. Next, the scarf was taken off and ta-da! She was surrounded by us and the cake was placed in front of her with all the candles. As usual, we sang the birthday song accompanied by the guitar played by Nicholas. After the singing and blowing the candles, then came the most awaited part of the night - giving the birthday girl the "special birthday gift". Eggs was broken off on top of her head and the slimy yolks smeared her face. The fun didn't end there. After she got herself smeared with the slimy yolks then came the flour which was scattered all over her body. Talking about the combination of egg yolks and flour - perfect! Ah yes! The cake as well. :)

Nevertheless, not only the birthday girl "suffered" from it, the others including me also got filthy and smelly. It was extremely fun playing "bubut-bubut" (a Sabahan term for the game of chasing one another) with them. Making ourselves looked extremely filthy was hilarious and it reminded me of my childhood time. It seemed like a reminiscence of ourselves when we were far younger. Before heading back to our respective residential college, we did the cleaning and not forgetting said a prayer which was dedicated for the special person of the night. I will try to upload some pictures taken by others in the coming post as soon as I got those pictures from them.

p/s: Happy 21st Birthday Gnet! May God's abundance blessing will always be with you. Hope you enjoyed the let's-get-filthy birthday party of yours! :)

Show me Your ways...

"Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Remember, O LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O LORD."

Stress.

To date, I have a pile of assignments that need to be done and as much as I hated it, the due dates are just around the corner which makes me feel restless each and every day. The assignment vary from individual to group task. Individual assignment would be fine because all I have to do is do my research and just proceed with the involved processes - at my own pace. As oppose to group works, not only I have to the research but also I have to catch up with the counterparts' pace and be prepared to be complaisant. Definitely, everyone's outcomes must be parallel to each other in order to produce the final products of good quality. The stress is overpowering and I hope I can cope with it.

A not-to-be-forgotten journey...

In the midst of the increasing number of the influenza AH1N1 cases in Malaysia, my friends and I decided to pay Malacca a short visit. On the 21st August, we left UKM as early as 7.30 in the morning to catch the train to Seremban. We waited for the RapidKL bus at the bus stop opposite our residential college and there were only 3 of us waited at the bus stop since it was still early in the morning. The bus finally arrived moments later.

Our journey from KTM UKM station embarked at about 9.00 in the morning and we were lucky because there were not many people waiting at the station - particularly the side heading to Seremban. The journey to Seremban was smooth without any unwanted interference and after 6 stops we finally arrived at KTM Seremban station. Since it was still early, Ambun, Menn and I decided to have our breakfast at the nearest eatery. Our breakfast was very simple yet fulfilling - a plate of nasi lemak and a glass of teh tarik. After breakfast we headed to the bus terminal and along the way we met Visha. She supposedly waited for us at the terminal. Then, the 4 of us walked to the terminal to get ourselves the bus tickets to Malacca. We took the trip to Alor Gajah because our friend, Nurul, promised to wait for us there.

Our breakfast.

About an hour and a half we arrived at Alor Gajah. Nurul was already waiting for us in her car and the first thing she did was driving us to the town of Malacca. Our first destination was the Christ Church Melaka - the red coloured church. I was petrified by the 2 huge pythons exhibited just a few steps away from the church. The snakes were slimy, shiny and looked gross. Sorry reptile lovers! Then we headed to the must-visit place in Malacca the Porta de Santiago (or mostly referred to as Kota A' Famosa). Actually, Porta de Santiago is one of the four gateways into the Portuguese fortress of A' Famosa. After taking numerous shots our stomach started to growl. Nurul took us to an authentic Baba Nyonya restaurant called Ole Sayang. I must say the food was splendid and satisfying. I had a wonderful lunch at Malacca - thanks Nurul for bringing us there.

After lunch we continued our trip to Menara Taming Sari. We paid RM10 for the ride to view the town of Malacca from the top of the tower. I can see the whole Malacca since the weather was nice and clear. After spending approximately 7 minutes at the revolving tower we then went to the Muzium Samudera - the huge ship. Again, we took quite a number of shots at the museum. We actually visited a few places of interest in Malacca and I just lazy to describe everything here. Haha. Nevertheless, Malacca is indeed a wonderful place to visit.

Our tourist guide for the day - Nurul - invited us to her house which is situated at Alor Gajah. So, we all went to her house for a short tea break. We didn't spend much time there since it was already getting late. Nurul drove us the terminal and to our horror, all the tickets to Seremban were SOLD OUT. We were stupid enough to not purchase the return ticket earlier. Damn. We seek for few alternatives; purchase tickets to KL instead of Seremban or use taxi. If we were to go for the first alternative (go to KL instead of Seremban) we would have reached KL at about 10 pm and the only bus left was scheduled to depart at 8.30 pm. That means all of us have to rush from Pudu station to KL Sentral. Sadly, the last train to UKM is at 10.30 pm. We definitely would not be able to catch up the last train. *sigh*. However, if we were to resort the second alternative, we would definitely burnt hole in our pocket because the taxi driver offered RM140 for the taxi fare to Seremban. RM140? That was far way extremely expensive. We ended up buying the ticket for the next day's trip. So, the 3 of us (minus Visha because she followed her cousin back) decided to find a budget hotel somewhere close to the bus terminal. Nurul suggested a place called Utas Villa (if I'm not mistaken) and it is a budget hotel a.k.a motel. When we arrived at the place, nobody was at the counter. We didn't want to waste much time since it was already dark and Nurul's parents kept on calling her to ask her whereabouts. So the last resort was - Nurul's house! Awkwardly, we accepted Nurul's offer. As funny as it might sound, we ended up spending a night at Nurul's place. Interestingly, Menn had to endure the first day of Ramadhan together with Nurul's family. The next morning, Nurul drove us to Alor Gajah's bus station to catch the 9.30 am bus to Seremban. Praise the Lord, we arrived safely at UKM in the afternoon. What a journey....

A joke...

Wife: Oh, come on.

Husband: Leave me alone!

Wife: It won't take long.

Husband: I won't be able to sleep afterwards.

Wife: I can't sleep without it.

Husband: Why do you think of things like this in the middle of the night?

Wife: Because I'm Hot.

Husband: You get hot at the darnedest times.

Wife: If you love me I wouldn't have to beg you.

Husband: If you love me you'd be more considerate.

Wife: You don't love me anymore.

Husband: Yes I do, but let's forget it for tonight.

Wife: (Sob-Sob)

Husband: Alright, I'll do it.

Wife: What's the matter? Need a flashlight?

Husband: I can't find it.

Wife: Oh, for heaven's sake, feel for it!

Husband: There! Are you satisfied?

Wife: Oh, yes, honey.

Husband: Is it up far enough?

Wife: Oh, that's fine.

Husband: Now go to bed and from now on when you want the window open, do it yourself.

Home is where the heart is

HOME

Home is the place your heart resides
Home is the place that you decide
Home is the womb that holds the soul
Home is the place where one is whole

Home is the glow you hold in your eye
Home is the emotion that makes you cry
Home is safe and a place of peace
Home is where all strivings cease

Home is protective against the others
Home is full of sisters and brothers
Home is where you find your rest
Home is where you feel your best

Home is a memory that follows your being
Home is a dream for those agreeing
Home is the place where reserves fall
Home is the place you yearn to call

Racism. Bigotry. 1Malaysia?

Don't get me wrong. I'm not doing this to provoke or to badmouth about the PM's so-called theme for the administration - 1Malaysia. Theoretically, the concept of 1Malaysia is a good idea introduced by the PM. It a slogan meant to promote unity and mutual respect and trust among the different ethnic communities in Malaysia.

First and foremost, I do believe the fact that everyone is racist to certain degree. It's normal. People fear about what is different from them and somehow feel comfortable because they are in their comfort zone - being with their own "kind". However, that is not an excuse for us for not mixing with people of different background/culture/religion. Frankly speaking, I don't know how far the concept of 1Malaysia can be achieved especially in the setting where I am at at this particular moment. The Malays only mix with the other Malays. Same goes to the Chinese and Indians. Ironically, this "phenomenon" is very seldom seen in East Malaysia. Why? I leave that question for all of you to ponder upon.

There were several times in the past weeks in which I endured a situation whereby I stumbled upon several people that I can classify as racists. One of which was during the
Minggu Pengenalan Persatuan. I was there and planning to register at the Photography's club's booth. During that time, there was a small group of Malay students (no offense) registering their names at the booth. So, I waited patiently for a while for my turn. At last it was my turn to register after a few minutes later. I approached the registration table and asked the registrar, "Hello, saya nak register...". I was not yet finished talking when I started to realize that he was looking at me from top to bottom. Then, the "magic question" popped-out. Well, there were actually a few provoking questions thrown to me. I felt like I was interrogated by a police. One of the question was, "kamu ni bangsa apa?".That was the time where I was assured of their way of refusing to accept me into the club. I took a deep breath and said, "Ok, thanks anyway" then I left the booth. The point here is, is it necessary for the registrar to ask me about my ethnicity, religion and where I come from in order for me to join the club and at the same time giving me a very suggestive expression?

Be rationale people! Do not simply judge a person by the differences...
