I might not have a mesmerizing vocal prowess. I might as well not a versatile singer. Having said that, singing is still one of my passions. I sing almost everyday regardless of time *wink*. As far as I can recall, I started to love singing since my kindergarten years. Yup. I started my early education at a missionary kindergarten - St. Francis Kindergarten - and that was the time when I was exposed to music/singing. Of course, during that time, most of songs were praise and worship kind of songs.
Then, after I completed my pre-school education I moved to primary school. I went to Sacred Heart primary school; a missionary school as well. There, I started to join the school's choir team and attended music class in which I learnt music notes. The first musical instruments I played was the recorder! Unfortunately, I was never good at playing it *sigh*. I lost my passion to learn playing the instruments as well as the musical notes. However, my passion for singing never diminish. I even tried out for Bintang Kecil but never made made it to the final...
In secondary school, I was actively involved in choir. The school always send a team to the inter-school choir competition which is an annual event. During that time, I had the chance to become the conductor as well as singer. Competition was tough back then. Each choir team will not reveal their songs even during the rehearsal - this was done by the "favourites", if u catch my drift. As much as I hated it, there was this one particular school that always become the champion - for most of the years. So, everytime we took part in the competition, people (even the teacher) will say, "Perform well and get the second spot because the champion is already obvious." We were like, "WTH?"
Now, in my tertiary level of education, the passion is still intact. However, I'm no longer participate actively in any choir competition or whatsoever. I've now become a so-called karaoke-addict. Karaoke outlet become a must-visit place during any free time for my friends and I. Gone are the days when the only place to go for karaoke was the tiny karaoke booth that can only fit in four people the most -depending on the body size of course! Rented karaoke room is chosen over the tiny booth simply because the latter has better sound system and much more comfortable. As oppose to the tiny booth, 1 song cost RM1 and most of the time the microphones are not in good conditions - not functioning and even greasy (eeuww!). Rented room is much better because the rate is actually affordable (some outlets have special price for student like me!), there are ample of song collections and look much more exclusive than singing in that tiny booth where people can actually see you from the outside.
Oh. Too much rambling already. Just to let you know that I'll be performing for the coming dinner. It's going to be an acoustic performance. After several discussions with my musicians (cewah!) we decided to perform our renditions of I'm Yours (Jason Mraz) and If I Let You Go (Westlife). My stomach is already started to be filled with gazillions of butterflies than I guess eventually transform into dragonflies! I do love singing but I have this thing called "stage fright"...Hopefully everything will be just fine and most importantly I'll be having a great time performing as singing is indeed another passion of mine.
