Just so you know, I have less than 2 weeks here in this school for my teaching practice. I just got observed by my lecturer for the second time few moments ago. The first one was yesterday. Yes. I got myself being observed for two consecutive days!
I've received many positive comments from my supervisor and I'm thankful for that. I'm glad that he satisfied with my teaching. I would also like to thank my students of class 1E and 2B for being so "angelic" that it stirred my curiosity *grinned*. Anyway, thank you peeps!
All this while I've been told by my former teachers/lecturers that I should never ever underestimate the students' potential. Yes. That's true. However, I can still see a handful of the teachers here in this school who tend to look down on the students *sigh*.
I was once approached by this particular teacher and she asked me which class I'm going to teach. Once she knew that I'm going to teach this particular class, she told me confidently that the students are "hopeless". I kept myself quite after that. It was like as if she knew I just finished teaching in the class that she came and asked me whether I achieved my objectives. What? Let me break this down. At the first place, was she appointed as my mentor? Nope! Secondly, is she teaching the class? Nope. Next, is she even an English teacher? Nope! Basically, she has nothing to do with class and the subject itself.
The thing is, I manage to prove that the students...wait a sec...MY students are not "hopeless". Take note on that. They are just students that are not interested in any mundane classes. So, the teacher should make an effort to make the class more lively and thus arouse their interest. I'm not doing this to say that I'm an extremely good teacher. Nope. I am just saying that a class should be interesting as possible. I once was a secondary school student and as far as I'm concern, all my English classes were fun. We had video show. We had games. We had so much fun. Enough said.
Bottom line is...we shall never underestimate the students!
i envy you big time steve! lol. you are about to finish your pracicum when i am about to start mine. congratulation because you prevail. lol. I'm nervous to face the day to begin teaching. i hope everything will be fine. since you said don't underestimate our students, well i will try to do that.
